There may be times after you install Power Query when the POWER QUERY tab does not appear. This is due to the Microsoft Power Query for Excel COM add-in failing to load. Most of the time the solution is quite simple: just reload the Microsoft Power Query for Excel COM add-in.

Reload the Microsoft Power Query for Excel COM Add-In

  1. In Excel, click the FILE tab.

  2. From the context menu, select Options.

  3. In the Excel Options dialog box, click Add-ins.

  4. If Microsoft Power Query for Excel Add-In is not listed among the add-ins:

    1. Locate Manage at the bottom of the dialog.

    2. From the drop-down, select COM Add-ins.

    3. Click Go.

    4. In the COM Add-ins dialog box, select Microsoft Power Query for Excel.

    5. Click OK.

  5. Confirm that the POWER QUERY tab is visible.

The Query Editor only appears when you load, edit, or create a new query. The following video shows the Query Editor window appearing after editing a query from an Excel workbook. To view the Query Editor without loading or editing an existing workbook query, from the Get External Data section in the Power Query ribbon tab, select From Other Sources > Blank Query.
